Book of Kells Facsimile

Did you know that back in 1990 the Irish Business Club purchased a rare facsimile copy of Book of Kells and donated it to the National Library of Finland in Helsinki.

The original is a beautifully illuminated Bible written by Irish monks between the 6th and 8th century AD. Usually this medieval masterpiece is seen only at the Library of Trinity College in Dublin, carefully guarded and enclosed in a glass box to prevent damage and degradation through physical touch.

Our IBC-donated facsimile was recently showcased at the opening of an exhibition entitled "Ireland and the Birth of Europe" at the National Library of Finland.

The facsimile is not on general display for visitors to the National Library but any member of the public can pre-arrange a viewing.

Not only is this a fascinating document to view, it has been of great benefit to researchers of history of Europe during these past 30 plus years.

30 Years of Business Networking

The Irish Business Club was established in Helsinki on the 6th of April 1989 to encourage networking and business relations between Finland and Ireland.

To celebrate the first 30 years, IBC published "30 Years of Business Networking".

Did you know that in 1995 IBC initiated the publishing of a booklet “Irlanti eilen ja tänään - Ireland yesterday and today”, introducing the rich heritage of Ireland as well as opportunities for businesses on the island.

The historical review of the publication was written by Ville Zilliacus and the booklet was endorsed by the Ambassador of Ireland Daithí Ó Ceallaigh.
